At the First Chirstin Reformed Church of Montreal, I am a member of our youth group and I have been on two five-day mission trips to the United States to do various mission work, such as working with chilren in the area, and the painting and construction of local buildings. The next and final trip for our mission trip will be to Managua Nicaragua for ten days.

Mon Valley, Pennsylvania

In Mon Valley, we spent two days working at a Kid's Club, doing arts and crafts, playing games and makin tye-dye t-shirts with the children. We also sang songs and put on skits for the chilren. We also spent two days doing consruction work for a man that was in charge of the maintence of fifty town house by myself. We put up dry wall and ceilings in two rooms, and painted six more. The final day there, we held a barbeque for everyone we met on the trip.

In Brooklyn, we did similar works to the Mon Valley Trip. We spent three half days working at the Kids Club, which was held at a park in Brooklyn, where we were able to have huge games of soccer and football, as well as throw frisbres and blow bubbles with the children. The rest of our time was spent working at a soup kitchen, serving lunch to to less fortunate. This soup kitchen was held at a local church here we also helped prepare the church for services as well as work at a Salvation Army.

Managua, Nicaragua

On May 23rd, my youth group will be flying to Managua, Nicaragua to do mission work at the Nehemiah Center, run by World Wide Christian Schools. For ten days we will be finishing up the construction at the Hossanan Sur school. We will be helping the local paint the school as well as working with students from grade two and eleven. We will be teaching english as well as supplying education material. We will be visiting the Treasure of God school for the handicap, where we will be teacher parents how to sew jeans for their children. We will also working working with the children on horseback, workin with therapeutic horses. Of all the trips I've been on, I am most excited for this one, as it will take be to a place I knew even thought I would visit. The culture of Nicaragua is very different from our own and will take me far out of my comfort zone and be an entirely new and exciting experience.
